  The 881 VDU Video Page

Over the years, Tony Bailey has accumulated many videos of Nigel Webb's recreated Hawthorn Mark 1. Here are some to share with you - in some cases taken from the rear or passenger seat of the car so expect a bumpy ride (and the leather is slippery)!

Paul Skilleter drives
881 VDU!

To complement the review by Paul, here are some stills from the video plus an extract from the video itself. The latter is a LARGE MPEG at 27 Mbyte and is best downloaded and watched locally.

The car was driven by Paul with Tony in the back seat. Nigel's other Mark 1 which acts as a route guide - his everyday road car with a 4.5 Litre XK engine (!) - was driven by Nigel with Norman Dewis as a passenger. Watch for Norman having a dance at the end!

Paul makes comments as he drives, some relative to the other Mark 1 ('the blue car'). The area is well monitored so speeds were not _too_ excessive... The engine sound comes over well.

You can watch the MPEG video from HERE ... It lasts around 7 minutes.

Nigel Webb takes
881 VDU round Goodwood!

Some years back when Nigel was progressing his racing driver skills (culminating as winner of the JEC XK Championship in 2006), he managed a few laps of the fabulous Goodwood race circuit in West Sussex, UK. Ace Driver Win Percy was alongside him guiding him round from a race drivers viewpoint - up the volume! Note that the car has no seat belts and hence the camera is not very stable as the cameraman slid around! Win has to hold on to while negotiating bends, as this was taken after his disastrous accident.

Unfortunately, Nigel got black flagged eventually after the track Marshalls spotted Tony Bailey sliding around in the back with the camera and no seat belt :-(

Here are some stills:

The video comes in two formats and each lasts 3 mins 6 secs:

Real Video (RM) approx 8 MByte (average quality)

MPEG (MPG) approx 32 MByte (good quality). This is the better version and Quick Time player will normally play this in an embedded browser window if you have the plugin installed.

Both are 320 x 240 pixels.
