Here are 'as they came' comments from some of our users for which thanks.
From Peter Sutherill:
I have an original signed letter from Mike Hawthorn
given to me by my neighbour Mr Douglas Wood after I
had loaned him the book 'Challenge me the Race'. This
was to decline a dinner invitaion from Douglas.
From Paul Satterly:
What a great site! I now live in Mallorca, but can keep up on the net. I used to go to the Goodwood Easter Monday
meeting with my Aunt and Uncle Marjorie and Glyn Bishop, who kept the "Duke of Cambridge" pub next door to
the Tourist Trophy garage in Farnham, Surrey.
They were both great friends of the Hawthorn family and idolised Mike.
When not racing, he would come to Sunday lunch with us, you can imagine the banter. He would mix happily
with the locals playing darts and cribbage, and they loved him for it. I was 15 years old at the time
and his death left a lasting sadness with me to this day, although I knew he was an ill man. I was
privileged to know him and to be able to enjoy what many still regard as the
From Peter:
What a really fantastic site! Have spent over 6 hours here today absorbing all this information.
I worked near Mike's garage in the late '50s and saw him coming and going many times in various cars.
One of the best tribute sites for anyone I've ever seen. Congratulations.
From Adrian on Jag-lovers:
I would like to thank you for bringing to our attention
the Mike Hawthorn Memorial Web site.
It was a very personal experience for me to visit the site
and brought back many memories, happy and sad, to me.
I had the pleasure of meeting Mr Hawthorn when he visited a
stop over we had during a Rally I was in, at Fairoaks Airfield.
I had already immigrated to Montreal and then moved to
Seattle when the terrible accident occured.
Reading the text and seeing the pictures was a moving
experience for me particularly because I went to College in
Guildford and have driven past Coombs TT Garage many times.
So, thank you again for allowing me to visit the superb
Memorial Web site and take a trip down memory lane.
From Andrew:
Attended the ceremony on Saturday of course and
thought I should be a member of the 'tribute'
site. You're doing a great job.
From Ettore:

Mike has always been one of my favorite racers. Thank you for
creating this wonderful website. I owned a 3.8 Mk2 years ago and
would like to know more about how Mike's 3.4 was set up for racing.
From John:
I just discovered your wonderful website this afternoon. Mike was
one of those fabulous characters who got me interested in racing in
1957. Keep up the great work. Thanks.
From Mike:
Congratulations on the website, something like this is well
overdue. I used to know Ted Papsch as when he ran the garage in
West Street I worked as the petrol pump attendant for a few months
after leaving school.
From Richard:
Hi. Congratulations on your site. I have just got back from Doug
Nye talking about Mike at the Bourne Residents meeting here in
Farnham. I found the site while looking for the video of Mike
commentating on a lap of Le Mans in '56.
From Jim:
Fantastic! This is what Mike needed - a very readable site with
just about everything one could wish for about our World Champion.
Even my 16 yr old son sat at his pc for an hour enthralled with it all.
Keep up the good work!
From Paul:
My father worked with Mike Hawthorn and has
photographs which may be of use to you.

Great website to a charasmatic driver. My own
treasured item is a painting I commissioned from
Michael Turner of Mike and Fangio at Tetre Rouge in
the 1955 Le Mans.
From Ed:
I don't know how long it's taken to get this site made up but you all deserve your own victory celebrations!
It is such an exciting experience to see all this data on Mike in one place and laid out so nicely. I'll be back again and again to savour
the experience. Thanks.
From Paul:
Absolutely fabulous site. Brilliant
From Dave:
I was a young lad, at home with the flu, when the radio
announcement came over announcing Mike Hawthorn's death. It
left an indelible memory that I carry to this day. Your
web-site is a grand tribute to the man and his memory. Thanks.
From Roger:
I was born in Farnham, went to his grave at 10
